This project can provide law and policy expertise to communities and organizations engaged with local and regional food systems policies.
Are you part of a government, nonprofit, or community organization that could benefit from law and policy support? Whether you are navigating, evaluating, or updating law and policy related to local and regional food systems, the Local Food Policy Resource Hub invites you to apply to receive remote consulting services.
How It Works
Selected applicants will be invited to meet with one or more experts at the Center for Agriculture and Food Systems (CAFS) to receive policy technical assistance. Depending on the applicant’s needs, consultation may be as simple as a conversation or as in-depth as the development of a researched and written resource.
Here are examples of the types of resources that the Policy Technical Assistance Lab can provide:
- A memo with background legal research
- Sample or model state or local legislation that highlights a particular policy strategy
- An issue brief to provide background information on a complex area of state or local regulation
- A report that explores examples of state or local laws that address a specific topic
The Policy Technical Assistance Lab is facilitated by a team of professors, attorneys, planning experts, and other legal and policy professionals with expertise in agriculture and food systems. The lab provides technical assistance related to municipal and state law in the United States and may not be able to provide assistance on all legal issues such as Tribal law. The lab cannot offer legal advice. We are able to provide background legal research and information about a topic.
Cost
The Policy Technical Assistance Lab offers free technical assistance to selected applicants.
Application Process
Applying is easy! Just fill out our short application form at the link below. Please note that the Lab’s capacity is limited. Successful applicants will be selected from government, nonprofit, and community organizations with succinct consultation needs that generally require between 2-25 hours of consultation support, including any necessary resource development.
