Policy Summary

S.F. 578 establishes the Farm-to-School Program Fund, managed by the Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, to support schools in purchasing food products directly from local farms up. This program shall match $1 for every $3 a school spends on local food, up to $1,000 per year. The bill also creates a task force to recommend ways for institutions, including schools, to routinely acquire fresh, locally produced food.
