Policy Summary

H.B. 1132 establishes the Local School Food Purchasing Pogram and the Local School Food Purchasing Technical Assistance and Education Grant Program. The Purchasing Program is designed to reimburse participating providers – school districts, charter schools, board of cooperatives services that operates a public school, or residential child care centers – for the purchase of Colorado grown, raised, or processed products. The Technical Assistance and Education Grant Program provides a grant to a statewide nonprofit organization to develop and manage the program designed to promote Colorado food products to participating providers. The nonprofit would be able to award mini-grants for training, technical assistance and infrastructure to participating providers, grower associations, or other organizations that aggregate products from producers.
